Water Resources
About Our Water Supply
Much of our community’s water comes from non-renewable groundwater (deep wells). While that water requires very little filtering to become drinking water, it is not sustainable. That is why we are working with other water providers throughout the South Metro area to eventually replace our groundwater with surface water. The good news is we do have some surface water out of Cherry Creek.
Our new water treatment plant is the best way for Cottonwood to use water that we own in Cherry Creek. Before we could start using the stream water, we had to have this type of water treatment to provide quality tap water into your home.
While the treatment plant was expensive to build and cost money to operate, it is still the most cost effective way for Cottonwood to work toward replacing the non-renewing ground water. It will replace about one-half of the community’s need for sustainable water.
